Hundreds of Visitors Stopped by the D-travel Booth at Mid-Atlantic Deaf & Hard of Hearing Festival

Robin and I had so much fun exhibiting for D-Travel at Mid-Atlantic Deaf & Hard of Hearing Festival in West Friendship, MD, last Saturday, November 15th. The festival takes place biennially. It was our first time attending and representing D-Travel at a booth event. Although it was a lot of work preparing for our booth and then exhibiting our travel services.  It was well worth our time and effort every step of the way. We met with people from all walks of life–young parents, grandparents, singles, couples, Gallaudet students & professors, GLBT, teenagers and people with disabilities.   Most if not all visitors to our booth were Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing whose vibrant language is American Sign Language (ASL).

Although many people came to the festival to see what products and services are available to them from various vendors and exhibitors, most came to meet socially as it is not often we get together with other people like ourselves, especially when we are out and  mainstreamed in the world of work or being with their families.

When visitors came to our booth, we noticed a question that we are asked often: Do you do a Deaf cruise?  Hmm…..  Yes, we can do cruises.  We normally book a couple or a small group of people to cabins on a cruise.  We haven’t organized a cruise event through our agency, though we are considering it, perhaps a river cruise with land tours in 2016 or 2017.  We understand Deaf people’s interest and wish for travel together.  And that is to include sign language so we may have a grand ol’ time at total ease with each other conversing in ASL for more than a few days.  If you will like to join on a Deaf river cruise, please let us know!  Also, let us know where you would like to go.  We’d love to hear from you!

At the end of the day at the festival, we announced a raffle winner who was so surprised to receive a $100 gift certificate from D-Travel, Roxanne Gibson.  She remarked she was not expecting to win anything, and she was thrilled that she won the gift certificate from us. The gift certificate allows her to use any of our services with $100 off. It can be used towards a round trip flight, a car rental, a hotel room for a few nights, or an all-inclusive vacation package.

Robin and I were sad to leave the festival, waving bye-bye to everyone, vowing we’d return in two years.  It was a Heart-Touch when we drove away back to New York.
