The 2012 World Deaf Athletics Championships (WDAC) will take place in Toronto, Canada from July 14 to July 21. WDAC is a non-profit track and field meet that provides Deaf athletes from around the world the opportunity to compete in this international meet. This event will attract Deaf athletes, coaches, volunteers, and fan from approximately thirty countries. The WDAC is supervised by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf and is also acknowledged by the International Olympic Committee. In addition to improving the self-esteem of Deaf athletes, WDAC strives to increase awareness of the Deaf community among the general public.
There are many festivities which begin with a Marketplace that will include booths from businesses supporting WDAC as well as businesses related to the Deaf and Sports community. This will be followed by a semi-formal reception, the Welcome Gala, to kick-off and celebrate this event. In addition, an opening and closing ceremony will be held followed by a semi-formal Farwell Gala that will include dinner and dancing.
